Christian Cage vs. Ron Killings

Background: Ron Killings didn’t take kindly to Christian Cage costing Sting the NWA World title in a match against Jeff Jarrett, then Cage’s attacking his old friend Rhino.

Christian Cage vs. Ron Killings

A stern lock up turned into a fistfight between the former NWA World champions. The action picked up as Killings flew off of the ropes with the Lie Detector to set up a choke slam into a blatant choke that the referee had to stop. Showing great agility, Killings avoided an incoming Cage with the split-leg lariat combo before springboard dropkicking Cage to the floor. Going wild was the Impact Zone following “The Truth’s” plancha, leading to a commercial break.

Coming back from the commercial, Cage was in control after turning the tides with a skillful thumb to Killings’ eyes. Cage immediately followed up with the reverse tornado DDT. Cage’s body couldn’t get fluid when he started dancing, but that stiffness allowed Christian to not only execute a neck breaker, but also stand on “The Truth” to choke him on the middle rope. The crowd rallied behind Killings, firing him up. Killings knocked Christian away, scaling the ropes. Christian was right behind his opponent, but Ron head-butted him away for a guillotine leg drop … to gain a near fall!

Osaka street cutter by Killings somehow only got him a two count as well. Killing’s spent too much time dancing to set up the Axe Kick, getting taken down by a clothesline instead. Killings staggered to his feet, getting speared … for another two count!

As Killings got up, he knocked Christian into the referee. With the ref stumbling and half blind, Killings couldn’t pick up the victory off of the Rydeen bomb due to the referee’s positioning. As Killings tried to help the ref, Christian kicked “The Truth” in his groin. One Unprettier later from Christian, and that was all she wrote.

Winner: Christian Cage (7:23 shown)

After the match, Rhino saved Killings from taking a Christian con-chair-to.

Is It A Classic: While it’s pretty much a paint-by-the-numbers match, Christian and Killings did a great job getting the crowd into this one with excellent pacing. It’s not a match you’ll go out of your way to see again, but at least one viewing is definitely recommended.
