Fragile Life

“How simple and fragile life is.” – Danny Scheinmann

Usually you see and understand what it means to be “fragile” without processing it fully. Yet, day-to-day life shows just how susceptible we all are to end of our respective journeys. I couldn’t believe it when I got on Facebook Saturday afternoon to see pained status updates in regards to the death of a man I had known and befriended in elementary school, DaVaughn Kidd. Our interactions outside of high school were minimal, but that didn’t stop up from always having a good laugh during the recounting of some of our “war stories” from the days of our youth (including one infamous day where a power outage at school turned into a literal battle royal) any time we saw each other. Though I’ve come to grips with the process of death in many forms through sheer first hand experience like so many others, I can’t help but be reminded just how meaningful each day truly is even if almost every one of them feels so similar to the last or the next. These brief moments of time that witnesses us existing on this planet are opportunities to really live, learn and leave inedible marks on the people who we’ve encountered. DaVaughn did leave a mark on so many people including me.
