“The thing that is really hard, and really amazing, is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself.” – Anna Quindlen
The fact is we all come from an environment that requires something of us to be what that environment wants of us. Be it our parents’ expectations for our future, media telling us how we should dress and act, and/or a significant other who you feel won’t fully accept you for who you are, we are shaped by how much we give up of ourselves to fit other’s criteria. But that’s not how is should be.
Realization that you are who you are no matter whom or what anyone thinks comes with time and age; and in some cases doesn’t come at all. While it’s great to make people happy by living up to other’s expectations, don’t lose who you are for the happiness of others because you have to live with yourself day in and day out; not them.
