The Video Gamer’s Experience Interview – Luke Aspinall

In this next evolution of “The Video Gamer’s Experience” I turn to you, the gamer, to find out what makes you tick when it comes to this entertainment medium based on interactivity, technological boundaries being obliterated, and emotional moments shared by thousands of people across the globe. Today’s interviewee: Luke “SickVeins97” Aspinall

What’s the first game you remember playing?

Probably Shrek Adventure Hunt on the PS1 way back when I was literally a toddler.

When did you realize you were a gamer?

The moment I completed the main story on Crash Bandicoot 2 and wanted to go back to get all the gems I hadn’t previously picked up.

Is there one story in your life that was directly impacted by a game?

There was actually. I finished the original God Of War trilogy in 2 days. A friend of mine was so impressed that we dated for a while… until she dumped me for a guy that had a more impressive Playstation trophy set than mine.

What’s your favorite video game genre?

Story-driven. I love knowing that my choices are the reason for what happens next. Mind you, my choices are always the worst, but I’m still proud of them.

What’s your favorite video game franchise?

World Of Warcraft. Me and my mother have been playing that for years. When I’m stressed or just having a bad day, the Orc dance always makes me feel better.

Is there one game you’ve never had the chance to play that you regret not playing?

Ratchet & Clank. I’ve played the third one, and loved the hell out of it. I always promised myself I’d get the rest of the series, but always got distracted by the latest big video game of the moment. Maybe I’ll get to play a remaster in the future, who knows?

What’s the best video game purchase you made?

Crash Twinsanity for the PS2. By far, my favorite Crash Bandicoot game. I completed that game so many times and never got bored of it. It was my go-to game when I had no more games to play. Unfortunately, the disc broke a few years back, and I haven’t managed to find another version since.

What’s the worst video game purchase you made?

No Man’s Sky. Pretty recent, I know. I expected so much from this game. Everyone was talking about it, it was going to be the game of the century!… until it actually released. I immediately felt how wrong the buttons were. The feel behind the game was too Minecraft-y and the exploration literally lead to nowhere. There was never a satisfying moment playing that game.

What video game character do you most relate to?

The way I played Lee Everett on Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 1 relates to me so much. The way he tries to help everyone, be friendly with everyone, make everyone feel important in one way or another. That’s me in a nutshell with all my YouTube buddies.

If a game based on you was made what would it be like?

Probably frustrating. I’ve been through a lot, from being kicked on to the streets to cracking my head open running into a wall. My choices haven’t always been the best, but they’ve made me the person I am today. Someone who appreciates life how it should be appreciated.

What are you playing now and what are you looking forward to playing in the near future?

Right now I’m playing a few games… Canis Canem Edit, Mad Max, Snake Pass, Kingdom Hearts, WWE 2K17, Worms Battlegrounds, Drawn To Death and Guardians Of The Galaxy: The Telltale Series. I’m looking forward to Injustice 2 and Prey, along with the new addition to the WWE 2K series and all the Telltale games to come.

Your desert island games?

World of Warcraft, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (PS2), Kingdom Hearts.

How can people keep up with everything you’re doing?

Easy. Just look up SickVeinsGaming on YouTube. I upload every day and am extremely active with my subscribers.
