The Wall

“To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.” – Lewis B. Smedes

Forgiveness is a funny thing. The word in itself seems so simple, but the action of forgiveness is sometimes so complicated. There are instances in life where one is confronted with a great wall that blocks out what is truly means forgive. The wall can form due to a frail misunderstanding or gratuitous lies. The feeling of hurt and anger adds more bricks and mortar to the wall with each passing moment.

We spend the rest of our days facing a wall that refuses to break – a barrier that we continually slam ourselves against. With a lack of forgiveness comes the loss of relationships once cherished, sickness, and even death of love. To break down this wall is to break down ones self. To conquer this wall is to conquer the folly of us all – pride. In reality, we must destroy the unforgiving wall by tearing down our own pride, selfishness, and anger. It is only then when we can truly live, love one another, and experience the joys of forgiveness passing through our existences like those seemingly unforgivable situations never occurred.
