Yearning

“All my life, my heart has yearned for a thing I cannot name.” – Andre Breton

I’ve recently started re-watching the anime series “Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad”. In the series, the main character is a fourteen-year-old kid who falls in love with playing the guitar after spending the majority of his existence wondering if there was more to life than just going back and forth to school everyday. The slice of life (entertainment or art being used to depict the typical, oftentimes uninteresting occurrences of life) series perfectly represents where we are were or still are at one point or another.

The quest for our passion(s) can be an easy or audacious task. For some, it’s immediately noticeable. You find something that grabs onto you and never wants to let go. You do everything to make sure you don’t lose that passion because without it, you feel like less than human. For others, they never arrive at their destination – they never find that special something that makes them feel unique. And for the rest of their days, they’ll walk through life yearning for something unattainable.

To not find and embrace your passion is a failed life in its truest sense.
