Near Death

“One of the near-death experience truths is that each person integrates their near-death experience into their own pre-existing belief system.” – Jody Long

Since 2008, October 31st has become an anniversary for me. One year earlier, I knowingly faced death for the second time and was blessed to walk away still alive and without physical loss. Many great minds and speakers have said that coming out of a near-death experience will make you appreciate and enjoy life more than before. But I can say that this feeling of strength doesn’t necessarily materialize so quickly.

There are times when a near-death situation can take something out of you mentally. It can leave you broken spiritually. Sometimes, near-death experiences are worst than death itself. While I’ve found strength in what happened to me that day and following my first near-death experience, it took more than just a few hours or days. Months and years passed before I became a stronger person following those experiences.

For me, near-death experiences aren’t meant to make us appreciate life more. Instead, a near-death experience makes us accept our own mortality while educating us on the fact that the acceptance of death is at times harder than the journey through life.
