Billy Kidman vs. Psychosis

Background: In the ongoing war between Cruiserweights for no other reason that they all wanted to be the WCW Cruiserweight champion, Billy Kidman took things to another level by challenging luchador Psychosis to a hair vs. mask match where Kidman would be shaved bald if he lost and Psychosis would have to remove his legendary mask if he was declared the loser.

Billy Kidman vs. Psychosis

Billy Kidman WCW vs Psychosis

Kidman went after the masked man’s prized possession (his mask) immediately, angering Psychosis to the point simply tossed Billy out of the ring to slam him against the guardrails. When the action returned inside, Kidman turned the tides via a head scissors that put Psychosis on the floor. Sidestepping the incoming Billy Kidman, Psychosis caused his opponent to crash & burn before executing the Arabian press to a great ovation. Rolling Kidman back in, Psychosis spent too much time parading before scaling the ropes. When Psychosis dove off his roped perch, Billy leapt to dropkick him out of midair.

Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Juventud Guerrera ran to ringside, distracting Kidman long enough for their fellow luchador to recover and drop Kidman. Once again, the tenacity of Kidman came into play as he quickly recovered and fired back until an Irish whip allowed Psychosis to spring off with a big dropkick on Billy’s ear. A frankensteiner followed for Psychosis … for a near fall!

Crotching Kidman on the top rope, Psychosis used a spinning heel kick to turn Kidman upside down for another close two count. Punching his way off the mat was Kidman, getting the fans into the match until another Irish whip came back to bite Kidman in the backside when Psychosis held onto the rope, avoiding a dropkick. Psychosis waited for Kidman to get up, only to run into the BK Bomb … for another two count!

Kidman was looking for a superplex, but Psychosis countered with the gourd buster (or as Tony Schivonie called it, “A reverse power bomb!”). Just when it seemed Kidman was ready to make another comeback, Juventud jumped onto the apron to distract the referee and set up Chavo’s tornado DDT on the unsuspecting Kidman. When the referee’s attention returned to the action, he started counting down Kidman following Psychosis’ lateral cover … for a two count!

Somehow, Kidman kicked out right before the three count to another big, positive response from the crowd. Slipping behind Psychosis, Kidman shoved his opponent into Chavo. The roll up failed as Guerrera slipped into the ring and utilized his Juvi Driver behind the referee’s back … for another Psychosis two count!

The power bomb failed for Psychosis because the law of WCW said, “You can’t power bomb Billy Kidman.” Countering the power bomb, Kidman used a face buster to put Psychosis in position for his Shooting Star Press finisher and the three count.

Winner: Billy Kidman (9:07)

Is It A Classic: While the stipulation would be made for a classic match, this was nothing more than a prototypical WCW Cruiserweight bout. That’s not to imply that it wasn’t good. The match was actually very good until the massive amounts of interference. Billy Kidman’s comeback would make Hulk Hogan blush with the amount of stuff he fought through before winning. A good match, but that’s it.
