Eddie Guerrero & The Amazing Red vs. The S.A.T.

It was Red and Jose Maximo locking up, leading to a quick exchange ending with Red landing a pair of deep arm drags that were a precursor to Eddie Guerrero coming in to help his partner head scissor Jose and tilt-a-whirl an intervening Joel Maximo into the backbreaker. Eddie wanted in, tying up with Joel to work over the arm of his opponent. When Joel got to his feet, Eddie found himself getting knocked down courtesy of not only a shoulder tackle, but also a frankensteiner. Joel wanted to sunset flip the rising Guerrero, but got caught in a sharpshooter that almost ended this one. Though Eddie couldn’t get the submission, he did put Joel in prime position for that slingshot senton off the apron. Turning a running attack against Eddie, Joel pulled him to the wrong part of town for a double team dropkick off the surfboard. Big German suplex by Jose was topped by the northern suplex. Eddie recovered just in time to stop a big attack off the top, utilizing a superplex before tagging out.

Red was on fire, rolling up Joel’s body to DDT him. When that didn’t end the match, Red hit a standing shooting star press for another two count. Red propelled off the ropes, running into a big power bomb from Joel. Like Eddie just moments ago, Red was on the wrong part of town; getting kicked around the ring. Eddie didn’t appreciate the frequent double teams including a pendulum submission hold into the slingshot leg drop. Joel made a huge mistake coming off the middle rope when he flew into a spinning kick to the face. Red rolled to his corner, tagging in Guerrero. Punches after punches were the precursor to a sick brain buster from Guerrero on Jose. Splash Mountain was countered by Jose; going for pinning combinations aplenty. Guerrero cut that short by using a clothesline to set up his Frog Splash. Joel had other plans in mind, trying to catch Eddie with the Spanish Fly. Red made the save, but “Latino Heat” still took a big fall when he failed to connect with the dragonrana. Reversing a tornado DDT, Eddie propelled Red to super hurricarana Jose in position for the Frog Splash. Jose was ready, moving at the last second. Guerrero was also ready, rolling through the fall. Before Jose could take advantage of the situation, Guerrero grabbed him to execute Splash Mountain for the three count.

Winner: Eddie Guerrero & The Amazing Red (13:22)

Is It A Classic: Not an early ROH classic, or wrestling classic at all; but a wonderful showcase by Eddie in his final ROH appearance during a time when he didn’t even need to be working on the indies (he had returned to WWE by this point and stuck to his word of finishing any dates he promised to be a part of pre-return). This also solidified The S.A.T. & The Amazing Red as the future figureheads of a style that would go mainstream many years later.
