Background: Looking to get back into the wrestling business after WWF(E) changed stations, MTV accepted upstart promotion Wrestling Society X’s offer to host a thirty-minute weekly show. This was the first match in the company’s short-lived history.
WSX Episode 1

Matt Sydal vs. Jack Evans
Unlike the humble future “Evan Bourne”, Matt Sydal entered the arena with his girlfriend Lizzy Valentine and posing like someone you’d want to slap. The fans felt Sydal “got served” by Jack’s break dancing. So Sydal reverse power bombed Evans to the floor for a moonsault plancha to a huge response from the pro-Evans crowd. Jack tried to flip and float his way back to an advantage, only to jump into a big spinning heel kick. Sydal was looking to test Jack’s flexibility, only to give Evans a chance to free himself from a standing surfboard before kicking Sydal to the floor for a big dive. Corkscrew press missed for Evans, but not Sydal’s moonsault press following the pump handle driver … that gave Matt a near fall!
Valentine tried to get involved, only to inadvertently give Jack the chance to spring over her and tornado DDT Sydal in position for his 630 Splash and the pin fall.
Winner: Matt Sydal (3:24 shown)
Is It A Classic: WSX looked to showcase a style of wrestling not seen on TV anywhere else. So who better to showcase that style than by putting two individuals taking the cruiserweight/junior heavyweight wrestling style to new levels on the independent wrestling scene? Unfortunately, the match was all flash and sizzle as both men just did moves for the sake of exciting the crowd. No, it isn’t a wrestling classic; but it does do a great job showing why WSX was so different.
