ROH TV Episode 514
July 24, 2021
Baltimore, MD

– Quinn McKay failed to overcome Mandy Leon last week in her effort to earn a spot in the Women’s Championship Tournament. Unfortunately for McKay it wasn’t a lack of talent why she failed, but Leon using a pair of brass knuckles.

– “Wrestling With Wregret’s” Brian Zane was joined by The Allure where Mandy Leon question how much more does their faction have to do to shut up Quinn McKay. Angelina Love declared their issues with McKay are over because of what happened last week.

– Quinn McKay returned to her hosting duties, putting over the card for tonight’s episode including the opening contest where World Famous CB will take on Flip Gordon.

Flip Gordon vs. World Famous CB

Brian Zane caught up Flip Gordon to interview him, but got shut down in favor of Gordon’s workout just like McKay a few weeks ago. World Famous CB had a pre-match promo where he stated how he spent the better part of a year finding himself; and through defeat Gordon will discover what CB has found within himself.

No Code of Honor courtesy of Flip Gordon. After getting muscled around the ring, World Famous CB showcased his grappling abilities that allowed for him to avoid being tossed around with ease. Gordon suddenly slammed CB in position for some insulting dominance from the top position. CB got to his feet, using a test of strength to trip Gordon. Flip countered soon after, rolling up CB for a two count prior to the commercial break.

Cinching in the side headlock, CB had Gordon looking to outmaneuver the wiry competitor. Dumping a running CB over the top rope didn’t help Gordon as World Famous slipped back in with a springboard arm drag into arm submissions focusing on wrist manipulation. CB got knocked to the floor, but easily avoided a dropkick through the ropes to grab that arm again. Before CB could whip Gordon shoulder-first against the ring’s edge, Flip used an overhead toss that caused World Famous to splat on the floor.

Gordon’s attacks were simple with boots aimed to choke, double ax handle smashes to the floor, and verbal insults. Moving at the last second when the action returned inside saw CB send Gordon left shoulder-first against the steel ring post. CB’s focus on the left arm of Gordon left him prone to a super kick while Flip was on his knees. Stopping a kimura was Gordon as he rushed CB against the turnbuckles for Kinder Surprise. Reverse Finlay roll into the STF allowed Gordon to submit CB.

– The Bouncers & Ken Dixon arrived at the commentators’ table to steal Ian Riccaboni’s headset so they could announce they will become the next Six-Man and World Tag Team champions.

– Brian Zane caught up with Flip Gordon to simply ask what’s next for him. Gordon had nothing to say other than his wanting his earned ROH World Championship opportunity.

PCO vs. Sledge

In his pre-match promo, Sledge promised to show the man who runs on electricity how it feels to run out of juice. Danhausen joined the commentators for this one, putting over his new tag team partner before a pre-match promo featuring the two aired. PCO couldn’t believe someone had the guts to challenge “The French-Canadian Frankenstein”. PCO promised Sledge would rest in Hell by the night’s end.

Instead of locking up the two shoved each other. PCO tripped Sledge into a series of ground & pound strikes. Turning the tides, Sledge rained down punches until PCO was stuck in the corner for a running face wash. As Danhausen asked why that attack in the ropes was grounds for a disqualification, PCO got to his feet firing off strikes. Neither man was going down until PCO pulled off a leg sweep into the falling headbutt. Double punches to Sledge’s head put him in position for the avalanche splash in the corner not once, but twice before going for a body slam. Sledge reversed the slam with one of his own topped off by an elbow drop that gave him a two count before the commercial break.

PCO slammed Sledge when his opponent attempted to pick him up, landing a dropkick immediately after on his seated opponent. PCO took every strike Sledge dished out, powering through and demanding Sledge to hit him. When Sledge obliged, PCO retaliated with body block after body block until Sledge was prone to the chokeslam set up. PCO opted to shove Sledge over the top rope via the goozle. When Sledge got up, PCO came sailing through the ropes with a tope con hilo.

PCO had the apron senton in mind where he dives off the top rope atop his opponent. Sledge couldn’t move in time & got crushed by PCO’s senton. Instead of bringing Sledge into the ring immediately, PCO started slamming Sledge against the ring’s edge. PCO suddenly had an electrical malfunction, taking a seat on the barricade. Sledge kicked PCO onto the concrete on the other side. The referee called for the bell after PCO and Sledge shoved him away from the ensuing brawl.

They weren’t done fighting with ROH security being the only thing separating the mayhem.

– Brian Zane was with Sledge after his draw with PCO. Sledge declared he wasn’t done with PCO after hanging with the former ROH World champion.

Dalton Castle vs. Eli Isom vs. Dak Draper

Dak Draper’s pre-match promo heard him state his goals for winning titles, gaining prestige & getting fame messed him up when he joined Dalton Castle and Eli Isom; promising to make them pay for costing him the World Six-Man Tag Team title. Eli Isom too was disgusted over the fact he failed to win gold alongside his opponents for tonight at “Best in the World” when they were a trio; declaring he won’t be made a fool of by them yet again. The extremely busy Dalton Castle believed everyone would take notice after his performance tonight.

The Boys ripped Dalton’s shirt off before Castle rushed the ring and ran into a Dak Draper clothesline. Draper turned around and got dropkicked to the floor for a somersault plancha from Eli Isom. Castle grabbed Eli from behind, pitching “Infinite” back in for a suplex. Draper pulled Castle out of the ring, whipping him into the steel ring post. When Draper went after Isom he almost got tossed before countering Isom’s running attack with a flapjack.

Castle grabbed “The Mile-High Magnum” from ringside; Isom using the distraction to suplex Draper before doing the same to Dalton. Dak and Castle recovered, giving Isom a suplex for his trouble. Isom dropkicked Castle when he went to the top, putting Dalton in position for a suplex that had “The Peacock” scurrying out of the ring. Dak made his presence known with a big boot to Isom after Castle ducked. Castle broke up Dak’s pin on Isom, only for Draper to pitch Castle over the barricade. When Dak reentered the ring, he ran into the spinning belly-to-back suplex to gain a two count heading into the commercial break.

Shoving Isom against the ropes, Draper countered a suplex by landing on the apron behind Eli. Before Dak could do anything, Isom dropkicked him to the floor for a follow-up moonsault to “The Mile-High Magnum”. Castle popped up from the other side of the barricade, bashing Isom on the top of his head with a chair. Castle demanded Draper follow up with something when The Boys got on the apron to mimic Draper’s Mile High Drop on “Infinite” before Dak pinned Eli. Castle left in celebration as if he won while Draper prepared to hand Eli the participation ribbon. Dak threw the ribbon to the side, shaking hands with Eli.

Overall: This week’s episode came across as a nice sampling of what ROH can provide on a weekly basis. The mix of grappling & high impact maneuvers in the opening contest showed the ferocity of Gordon while CB displayed his incredibly underrated talents. PCO and Sledge had a nice big man battle that allowed Sledge to really shine against the former ROH World champion. And Dak Draper picked up a big win thanks to the eccentric and what seems to be erratic Castle over his budding rival Isom who has to be out for revenge after what happened here. While this episode didn’t feature any must-see bouts like last week or any significant fallout from “Best in the World”, it was a solid hour of action to set the stage for, potentially, something bigger for everyone involved in this episode.
