Adam Cole vs. Drake Younger

The challenger, though sporting a taped up head featuring eighteen stitches underneath, took the fight to Adam Cole and actually landed on his feet upon connecting with the moonsault off the top to the floor on a retreating champion. As if that wasn’t enough, Cole felt a cannonball while stuck in the front row. The action returned inside with Drake showcasing his skills by connecting with several suplexes. Everything was going Drake’s way until he missed a shoulder ram and hit the steel ring post. The post and front row became Cole’s best friend before the champ started elbowing the stitched head of Drake. Working his way off the mat, Younger took the momentum back; executing a piledriver. The champion kicked out of the pin attempt, pulling off a brain buster on the knee (Last Shot) for another two count. Big haymaker missed for Drake, but not the clothesline that turned Cole inside-out. Cole recovered, trying to turn a cornered attack with the Canadian Destroyer. Blocking the attack, Younger turned it into the Gibson Driver to earn a near fall. By stopping Younger’s follow up, Cole was able to enzuguri and super kick the back of Drakes head before executing the Florida Keys … to gain a near fall!

Leaving the ring in shock, Cole grabbed his title belt before going under the ring to retrieve a chair. The referee wasn’t having any of it, taking the chair from Cole. But it was all a distraction as Cole lunged at his challenger with the title belt. Drake ducked the illegal strike, hitting his Vertabreaker … to attain a near fall thanks to the ropes!

Younger wanted a super Vertabreaker when Cole fought to freedom and jumped off the top to pull off a Canadian Destroyer … that gave the champion a near fall!

Both men were barely able to stand, throwing desperate forearms until Younger knocked Cole into the Vertabreaker … that gave Drake a near fall!

Kevin Steen was going mad on commentary that Cole kicked out. Both men were thinking lariats and Younger was refusing to let himself be staggered. The fans were going wild, only to witness Cole use the O’Connor roll up. Grabbing the tights out of the referee’s view, Cole held Younger down for the three count to retain.

Winner: Adam Cole (18:42)

Is It A Classic: What a great match. The fans were into everything and Younger, being that fan favorite who never died, was robbed in the end was so poetic thanks to a fantastic match leading up to that cowardly ending. This is an example of everything that’s great about pro wrestling.
