Bill Goldberg vs. Sid Vicious

Background: At “Halloween Havoc” the previous month, Bill Goldberg defeated Sid Vicious due to referee’s stoppage – leaving the question as to who would really quit in a rematch between the two that would be answered at the first & only WCW “Mayhem” event.

Bill Goldberg vs. Sid Vicious

And dey was a clubberin’ at da bell, Tony when Sid tried to attack “Da Man” before he got in da ring! Goldberg slammed Sid, only for Vicious to get up without a showing of pain. Goldberg made him pay by beating him around ringside before pitching Sid back in for the attempt at making Vicious quit. Vicious caught Goldberg between the ropes, locking in a cobra clutch he converted into a slam topped off by eye gouging and face raking. The fans were starting to rally against Goldberg as the referee tried to ask whether or not Goldberg was ready to quit. Whipping Goldberg off the ropes, Sid caught the former World champ off the rebound with a choke slam. When Goldberg didn’t submit, Sid executed another choke slam. And, once again, Goldberg refused to give up – so Sid started choking him while screaming at the referee, “Ask him!” Grabbing the extended arm of Sid, Goldberg was able to sweep Vicious into the cross arm bar. Sid too refused to surrender, forcing Goldberg to take a page out of Sid’s book by simply punching him over & over again as the crowd chanted, “Goldberg sucks!’ Sid was clutching his right arm and barely able to stand as the referee questioned “Sycho” about giving up the match. Before Sid could say anything, Goldberg cinched in a rear naked choke. Sid passed out; forcing the referee to stop this I Quit match without a man saying the words, “I quit.”

Winner: Goldberg (5:30)

Is It A Classic: Well, da was a clubberin’ in bizzaro world, dat’s for sure, Tony. The ending definitely left a lot to be desired as it pretty much accomplished the exact same thing as their last encounter did – Sid still looks like a winner in defeat while the man who was once the most popular figure in all of wrestling alongside Steve Austin just a year prior couldn’t win a single match clean.
