ROH TV Episode 518
August 21, 2021
Baltimore, MD

– Ian Riccaboni was here to run down tonight’s card including two Women’s Championship tournament matches followed by the main event of Rey Horus taking on Demonic Flamita in a No Disqualification match.

– Brian Zane had Rok-C and Quinn McKay in the back for a dual interview. Zane brought up how Rok-C wanted to face Quinn in the next round, only for McKay to take exception to the statement because she believes the only reason “The Prodigy” would want such a match is because Quinn is seen as an interviewer more than a wrestler. Before Rok-C could respond, her music hit to signal it’s time for their bout.

ROH World Women’s Championship Tournament Quarter Round: Rok-C vs. Quinn McKay

Code of Honor was followed before the initial collar & elbow tie-up that resulted in both trading hammerlocks. Rok-C eventually found herself stuck in a side headlock. Using the head scissors to free herself, Quinn gave Rok-C a taste of her own medicine when “The Prodigy” put her in a side headlock. The pace quickened, resulting in Rok-C tripping McKay into that back flip double knee drop that gave her a two count. Quinn wouldn’t be deterred, using a pair of shoulder blocks to set up an unsuccessful roll up. Rok-C posed after landing that knee drop, so Quinn did the same after the roll up almost ended the match. Test of strength occurred when they got close to each other with Rok-C bridging off the mat when pushed backward.

“The Prodigy” came up swinging, showing some lucha skills by jumping off the top with an arm drag. When Rok-C hit the ropes for a follow-up she took a clothesline while throwing one of her own for a double down. They kipped up at the same time leading to the commercial break as they cautiously slapped hands in a show of respect.

McKay came over with the leap frog when the show returned, collapsing in pain. Clutching her left knee, Quinn demanded that the match continue. Rok-C smartly went after the limb, landing a shin breaker. “The Prodigy” didn’t appreciate Quinn firing back with a punch, landing a series of strikes that put McKay in position for a big suplex. Using a drop toe hold to stop Quinn from making a comeback didn’t allow Rok-C to hit the double knees in the corner as McKay moved. Rok-C blocked the Tangerine Dream, unleashing a slew of rights off the Lou Thesz press. Reversing an Irish whip, McKay kicked Rok-C’s legs from underneath her for a neck breaker that earned Quinn another two count.

“The Prodigy” kicked the incoming McKay, only to jump into a big belly-to-belly suplex. Quinn was looking for a series of pinning combinations, but they all failed until McKay went for a fireman’s carry something; her leg collapsing underneath her. Quinn got up slowly to see Rok-C propelling off the ropes. McKay jumped with the leapfrog attempt, only for Rok-C to hold onto the top rope; causing Quinn to land on her bum leg. Before McKay could recover, Rok-C pulled her down with the Code Red for the three count.

ROH World Women’s Championship Tournament Quarter Round: Nicole Savoy vs. Miranda Alize

In her pre-match promo, Miranda Alize put herself over as the best the tournament has to offer. Business is business and she’s ready to take out someone she actually respects. Nicole Savoy, on the other hand, was somewhat emotional taking on a real good friend of hers. Putting friendship aside for tonight, Savoy is ready to win.

Stern collar & elbow tie-up quickly resulted in them going to the mat as Lenny Leonard brought up their history as a tag team in STARDOM. Alize had to use the ropes rather quickly to stop a triangle choke. Savoy was on point with her grappling as she used a bridge to add more pressure to the top wrist lock. Biting Savoy’s right hand not only allowed her to free herself, but also cinch in an illegal arm bar topped by the nefarious act of biting. The pace picked up as both were looking for flash pins that even the referee couldn’t keep up with. Alize barely got a head scissors that had Savoy tangled in the ropes. When Nicole rolled to the floor, Alize came through the ropes with a successful baseball slide. “The Lucha Baddie” made a big mistake going after Nicole as “The Queen of Suplexes” grabbed her for a devastating suplex on the floor prior to the commercial break.

During the break they slugged it out on the floor with Alize taking control and continuing her momentum with a dropkick on the seated Savoy in the ring. Nicole kicked out of Miranda’s pin attempt, landing a big German suplex off a series of strikes. The sliding clothesline didn’t put Alize’s lights out, nor did a fall away slam. Chelsea Green was also apart of the commentators’ team and didn’t know who could pull this one off in impressive fashion. Alize looked to prove Green wrong with an onslaught of strikes. Savoy caught an incoming arm, hitting a pair of butterfly suplexes before hitting the Royal Butterfly … for a near fall!

Savoy turned the failed pin attempt into a cross arm bar. Alize countered with Miranda Rights in the ring’s center. Savoy seemed to be fading, only to roll through the submission and catch “The Lucha Baddie” with a Michinoku driver to gain another two count. Savoy was looking for something fancy off the middle rope when she threw herself into a super kick. Middle rope-assisted DDT by Alize ended so close to the ropes, forcing her to pull Savoy to the center of the ring for another two count. Savoy seemed out of it and unable to avoid the Drive By that ended with Miranda actually pinning one of the tournament’s heavy favorites.

– The Bouncers & Ken Dixon were backstage with Beer City Bruiser speaking for his trio. BCB declared the fun-loving version of themselves got them nowhere. So now they have another way of helping opponents forget their problems: by beating them into unconsciousness. Dixon tried to get his two cents into the conversation, but Brian Milonas had other plans by reprimanding him. Bruiser settled his allies by declaring if they get on the same page they’ll be unstoppable.

No Disqualification: Rey Horus vs. Demonic Flamita

Demonic Flamita said in his pre-match promo that he was the best in MexiSquad and he’d end this feud tonight once & for all. Speaking in Spanish so his opponent could understand him, Rey Horus promised to shine against his old friend like ever before.
Flamita brought a chair into the ring before a big fistfight broke out after the bell. Blocking a dragonrana didn’t help Flamita as he was taken down by a Code Red for an early two count. Flamita left the ring, using a jumping kick to stop Horus before Rey could dive through the ropes. Flamita went to reenter the ring with another chair when Horus dropkicked the steel into his masked face. Rey took too much time setting up his next dive, flying into a thrown chair that allowed Flamita to take control.

Setting up a table at ringside, Flamita reentered to attack Rey’s legs with high impact strikes and slams. Placing a chair between the top & middle ropes in the corner, Flamita attempted to send Rey into the steel yet again after he couldn’t pin Horus. Rey actually tripped off the whip, causing him to collide top-of-the-head first against the steel chair. Rey somehow recovered in time to stop another whip, grabbing the chair and cracking Flamita on the top of his head. Flamita fell out of the ring, only to feel a deja vu tornado DDT on the floor before the commercial break!

Flamita got tossed against the steel ring post as the show returned. Horus lit DF’s body up with chair shots. Pitching Flamita back in, Horus connected with a beautiful froggy cross body block topped by an overhead belly to belly suplex in the corner. Flamita wouldn’t stay down for the three count, landing a super kick off the insulting slap in retaliation of Horus’ slap. Double underhook backbreaker by Flamita almost ended Rey’s night. Instead, Flamita mouthed off until Horus was able to counter whatever he had in mind with not one, but four tornado DDTs. Horus couldn’t grab Flamita for a pin attempt as Demonic rolled onto the apron. Horus met Flamita on the apron to chop this match out. Horus used the enzuguri to stun Flamita before climbing the ropes in front of DF. Blocking a big punch, Flamita pulled Horus off the top with a Spanish fly through the table! Rolling Rey back in, Flamita … gain a near fall!

Though frustrated, Flamita climbed the ropes one more time to execute the Phoenix Splash to pin Horus.

A victorious Flamita looked at the nearby camera to call out Bandido.

– Next week will see the last two quarterfinal round Women’s tournament matches when Allysin Kay takes on Trish Adora, and Angelina Love fights Max the Impaler; while the main event will feature Eli Isom taking on Dragon Lee for the ROH World Television Championship.

Overall: The consistency of ROH TV can’t be denied, especially in regards to the quality of women’s wrestling since the tournament began. For a first-time encounter, Rok-C & Quinn had impeccable chemistry; going from an honorable encounter into a more heated, though by-the-rules battle that saw “The Prodigy’ prove her talent is well beyond her years. Rok-C outsmarted McKay and advanced following a match that, hopefully, isn’t the last time we’ll see these two fight. On the opposite end of the spectrum in regards to a favorite advancing occurred in the next bout. Tournament favorite Nicole Savoy fell to Miranda Alize. Like the previous match, both had good chemistry with, similar to the Alize-Gracia tournament match, only got shaky when they worked a little too fast. But the end was fire with Alize arguably upsetting Nicole to move on to the semis. The unpredictability of any tournament makes them so much fun to watch and when someone as talented as Alize does the unexpected it makes it that much better.

Not to be outdone was the main event. Unlike their previous bouts where it was based more on high-flying fights, this was a wild, hate-filled brawl. Both men went crazy from bell to bell with some impressive moments including the huge moment where both flew from the top to go through a table. Flamita ends their feud with a victory and more reason to be next in line to face the ROH World champion. A very enjoyable episode this week with a shocking upset in the Women’s Championship tournament.
