Wrestling Life Lesson From The Undertaker

Evolve to Become a Phenom

The Undertaker Evolution

This weekend is the WWE’s annual “Survivor Series” pay-per-view event with one of the main hooks/draws being the twenty-fifth anniversary of The Undertaker’s debut. Though the image synonymous with the man who would eventually gain the nickname of “The Phenom” is that of an individual in a long black coat topped by a black hat that invokes the stereotype of what an undertaker used to look like in society, the truth is for long-time wrestling fans they’ve witnessed the man behind persona evolve throughout his twenty-five years being a part of the former WWF. His character morphing started with slight changes in appearance. Originally he wore gray, wrist-length gloves, only to embrace the color purple when an imposter tried to take his spot. The Undertaker would eventually take a turn toward the darkest evil; attempting to perform human sacrifices simply to make a point that no one was as dangerous as him while growing a devilish goatee and letting the world hear his voice rather than rest on his three-word catchphrase, “Rest in peace.”

But injuries would become a staple to most, if not all of The Undertaker’s grand changes. And when he would return, The Undertaker was even more different than before both in appearance and attitude. Similar to all things, The Undertaker’s evolution came full circle in 2004 when he returned to his old persona as “The Deadman”, aligning with his old manager and battling his vindictive brother. Over the years wrestling fans have come to know The Undertaker through his various forms; also learning that only through evolution can a person become grand and reach the depths of their potential. Change allows one to find the ability to sustain while becoming a true force. Be like The Undertaker and continue to evolve while never forgetting the point where you started to become a phenomenal person.
